no sugar added

mark has a peanut allergy. we can put a man on the moon but modern science can't figure out how to cure peanut allergies. awesome.
i LOVE peanut butter. i'm 26 and i still enjoy a nice pb&j sandwich with a cold glass of milk. chocolate is better with all things peanut. and my favorite candies all have peanuts in them.

i have been on a peanut butter fast the past year. mark can't eat peanuts, obviously, and peanut allergies tend to get worse over time. so what starts as a slight rash around the mouth when in contact with peanuts can grow into anaphylactic shock at the slightest exposure with a peanut. now in my diaper bag instead of a snickers bar, i carry around benadryl and an epi pen at all times. i pray i never have to use it.

so recently i found this treatment, NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Treatment) that supposedly curses/eliminates allergies, and claims to be able to cure mark's peanut allergy. i was skeptical. majorly disbelieving...but...what if it worked? i had friends and friends of friends swear by the treatments. so after much discussion and prayer we decided to try it out. our insurance covers the treatments, so what's there really to loose? it can't be that hard, right?

wrong.

first treatment--mark can't eat ANY sugar or anything WITH sugar for 48 hours. try to guess how much sugar is in our food? TONS. no yogurt, fruit, cookies, bread, sauces, certain spices, cheese, etc...what can he eat then? meat, eggs, and vegetables. not the easiest diet for a two year old.

this treatment had better work. i'll keep you posted.

so anyways...i learned about this treatment, a wholistic treatment

i came across your blog while surfing blogs this fine sunday morning. i thought i'd write you about your kid's peanut allergy. i've taught elementary school for 30 years(retiring this year!)i'm not sure why peanut allergies and other food allergies are on the rise. when i started teaching i can't even remember any students having an allergy--perhaps one or two had allergies to dairy. but peanuts? never. now, as i finish my career i have several peanut allergies. i don't get it. is it our food sources? i thought maybe it has to do with pregnant moms who are vegetarians. it seems as though our diets have gotten better, so why the nut allergies? i hope your sugar free diet helps. i'm a runner and work out and i can say that i have reduced sugar intake over the years quite a bit. and you're right...it's in everything! i'll come back to your blog to see if this diet works. if it does i'll recommend it to some of the parents that have kids with nut allergies in my classroom. take care! btw, sky diving is awesume! i actually did my solo dive...great stuff! take care! randy (tucson, az)

Mark is a great sport to follow the doctors directions! I am certainly praying that this treatment works. It looks like it should! If not we will think of something else. love you Mark, Grammy Q.
