i need to get my knife

the other day, mark was watching the movie, "beauty and the beast" while i cooked dinner. i was enjoying listening to the music from one of my favorite disney shows. and was deep in thought reminiscing over the first time i watched "beauty and the beast." how as a young girl i loved the brown-haired princess (finally one with brown hair like me). i loved the lessons the movie taught as well. it valued reading. good. and it taught principles of seeing inner beauty and forgiving each other. i was thinking about these, wondering which ones my son would pick up on as he watched it. i was beginning to plan a fhe around this movie, when my thoughts were interrupted by mark running past me saying, "i got to get my knife mommy."

my thoughts: ummmm....ok, i'm going to put this chicken down and pay a little more attention to mark.

what i said: mark, honey, come back. you don't have a knife. why do you need a knife right now?

mark: mommy, i need my knife. i need one.

me: why? weren't you watching "beauty and the beast."

mark: yeah, and i need to get that bad guy.

me: who?

mark: 'ston (gaston), the bad guy getting the beast. i need help him.

me: so you need to help the beast fight gaston?

mark: yeah mommy. hurry. he need me now.

my thoughts: sigh, so much for understanding inner beauty. laughing. man, in all my years watching and singing along with that movie, never once did i have the reaction, "i need to get my knife" to "beauty and the beast." boys and girls are very different.

Tell me about it! Jackson did almost the exact same thing after watching that movie. Everything became a knife and he was always trying to fight against the bad guys. Boys.

That's a classic! Thanks for sharing:) Yes, boys and girls are different. Read Bringing up Boys by James Dobson. It's great! He also wrote bringing up girls, if you have one next :)
